Introduction : Congenital heart disease is one of the most common congenital disorders in children. It has many adverse effects on all family members. In particular, caregiving of these children can be a great burden on the parents, especially mothers. This study aimed to determine the effect of a care program on the burden of caregiving mothers of these children. Method:This study is a quasi-experimental research, conducted for three months on 60 caregiving mothers (30 mothers in the control group and 30 in the experimental group) of children undergoing congenital heart disease surgery, selected via convenient sampling in Chamran hospital of Medical Sciences university in isfahan from Jan 2017 for three months. the beginning of the study, the burden of care was measured through ZARIT questionnaire. Four weeks after the intervention, the burden of care was measured again in both groups. Findings:Mean scores of caregivers’ burden were 56.3 and 55.5 in the control and experimental groups before the intervention (P <0.05) and 57.3 and 43.5 after the intervention respectively. These findings indicated a significant reduction in the burden of care in the experimental group (P < 0.05). Conclusion: Care programis recommended as an effective solution to reduce burden of care of mothers of children undergoing congenital heart disease surgery.
