Introduction: Due to the influences of the environment and children's high contact with illustrated books in education and entertainment, colors and shapes images can affect children's mood and behavior. This study has purposed to investigate the effects of color and shape images on behavioral problems in children 4 to 5 years old.
Methods: This study was semi experimental and it have been evaluated effects of independent variable with four components included warm colors, cold colors, curved shapes and angled shapes on behavioral problems in chlidren 4 to 5 years old. For intervention 4 groups of images included warm colors-curved shapes, cold colors-curved shapes, cold colors-angled shapes, and warm colors-angled forms were formed. Related images in each group were presented in 8 sessions. During the sessions the children tried to copy and paint the images. Statistical sample consisted of 40 girls and boys who were selected randomly relate random four kindergartens from Mashhad city and then every kindergarden was assigned to an experimental group. Childrenʼs behavior questionnaire was comlated by teachers in pretest and posttest phases. Collected data were analyzed through dependent t test, covariance analyses and post hoc test.
Results: The results showed that only in cold–angled group had not reduced subscales of behavior questionnaire in posttest phase. In reducing behavioral problems warm-curved (p=0.0001), cold-curved (p=0.002) and warm-angled (p=0.02) groups had the greatest influence respectively. It also results of covariance analyze showed that were among groups meaningful difference in posttest of behavioral problems by controlling effect of pretest (p=0.0001),.
Conclusion: Designing of images with curved shapes and warm colors can affect benficially reduction of behavioral problems.
