Introduction:The parenting style of their mothers influences the mental health and healthy development of young children.Therefore, this research was conducted to determine the effectiveness of schema-based parenting education on the parent-child relationship and parenting stress of mothers. Method:This was a semi-experimental study with a pre-test and post-test design with a control group. The population consists of mothers with young children in Shiraz (Iran) in 2022. Based on the inclusion criteria, 30 subjects were selected randomly and randomly assigned into experimental and control groups of 15 subjects. The studied mothers were evaluated with the demographic, Pianta parent-child relationship scales (Child-Parent Relationship Scale) and parenting stress short form (Parenting Stress Scale Short Form).The experimental group went under 12 sessions of 90 minutes twice a week intervention, as the control group was held back on training. The data were analyzed using multivariate covariance analysis (MANCOVA). Results: The findings showed that schema-based parenting education improved the parent-child relationship and reduced the parenting stress of mothers with children (P<0.001). The largest effect sizeswere 88% and 72% for Parenting Stress and parent-child relationship respectively. Conclusion:The present study showed that schema-based parenting training can increase in the parent-child relationship and reduction in parenting stress in mothers with young children. Therefore, the use of this simple, useful, and low-cost method is recommended by mental health professionals in the community of mothers with young children.
