Abstract

Introduction: Mothers have a significant role on forming eating habits of toddlers. The aim of this study is detrmined the effect of mothers' feeding behavior education on eating habits of their toddler children in Hamadan kindergartens.
Method : In this semi-experimental study, 130 mothers of 12 – 36 month years old children were selected by a multi-stages probability cluster sampling from Hamadan kindergartens and were divided into the case and control group (65 persons) by simple sampling Group educational sessions were done case group. Before intervention and one month after that, data was collected with Dietary questionnaire and analyzed by SPSS software version 16 and with descriptive statistics, independent T-test, paired samples t-test and covariance test.
Result: There was a significant between the mean of dietary behaviors scores of two groups before and after the intervention (p<0/05). Covariance test was done for omitting the effect of the viewing statistical different before of the intervention between the case and control group on the different after that. The result showed the significant different between two groups (p<0/001). There was a significant different between the mean of toddlers' weights before and after the intervention in case group (P<0.05). However, there was not a any significant statistics different between the case and control group before (P=0.1)  and after (p=0.4) intervention.
Conclusion: feeding behaviors education to mothers could improve the eating habits of their toddler. Improving toddlers' eating habits is an important step for enhanced the toddlers' growth and development.

Abstract

Introduction: Autism Spectrum Disorders are a collection of related disorders that effect children's social growth and ability to communicate. The present study aimed at defining the efficacy of social attention and communication educational program on nurses' skills concerning early identification of infants and toddlers at risk of Autism Spectrum Disorder at Imam Hossein Specialized hospital in Isfahan.

Methods: This was a quasi-experimental study. The study population comprised of all nurses working at Imam Hossein Specialized Hospital, who were selected through convenient sampling (n = 40), and were then randomly assigned to study and control groups (n = 20, n = 20). Nurses' skills were assessed by Social Attention and Communication Study (SACS) checklist (Barbaro, 2011). The educational program was conducted for the study group during three sessions. Finally, the post hoc test was administrated in both study and control groups.

Results: Analysis of Covariance (ANCOVA) test showed a significant difference between pre-test and post-test scores of nurses' skills in early identification of infants and toddlers at risk of Autism Spectrum Disorder in the study and control groups (P = 0.001). There was also a significant difference between pre-test and post-test scores of nurses' skill in early detection of communication signs in infants and toddlers at risk of Autism Spectrum Disorder in study and control groups (P = 0.001).

Conclusions: The results showed that nurses' training program known as "social interest relationship" could be used to detect risk for autism spectrum disorders and to continue the treatment at 8 months.

Abstract

Introduction :  Children are the most vulnerable groups in society, whose health needs particular attention. However, children in kindergartens are more vulnerable to being infected than other children who are kept at home. The present study aimed to determine the effect of implementing a health-oriented program developed for care providers on the health outcomes of toddlers in kindergartens.

Methods: In the present interventional study, four kindergartens were non-randomly selected from among four districts in Semnan city, and then were randomly and equally divided into intervention and control groups. All eligible toddlers were selected by census (30 in the intervention, and 32 in the control group). Data collection tools included a demographic questionnaire and a checklist for toddlers' health problems. We developed, implemented, and evaluated a health-oriented program, based on recognition, protection, and planning to maintain and improve physical aspects of healthy behaviors to promote the health of toddlers in kindergartens. The results obtained were analyzed and compared to the control group in SPSS-21.

Results: The chi-square test showed that the two groups matched in terms of demographic variables such as age, education, and marital status (P>0.05). The chi-square test also showed significant differences between intervention and control groups before and after intervention in terms of health outcomes (digestive P=0.007, respiratory P=0.003, skin P=0.001).

Conclusion: The present study results confirmed the effectiveness of implementing the health-oriented program on caregivers associated whit toddler health outcomes.
