Relationship between BMI, maternal health promoting lifestyle and demographic variables among Schoolchildren in Qazvin, 2014

Introduction: health promoting lifestyle, a valuable factor for reducing and impact of health problems and improve quality of life. Today obesity as a chronic disease can be seen. In fact, the neglect of maintaining a healthy weight can cause a range of problems associated with the health. a rising trend in the prevalence of overweight in children has a close relationship with their family lifestyle. This study aimed to investigate maternal health-promotion lifestyle, body mass index and some demographic among schoolchildren in Qazvin, 2014.
Methods: This study was a cross-sectional. 287 families and their 6-11 years old children (first to sixth grade) studying in Qazvin (public and private school) selected by random cluster sampling. Data collected using a standard questionnaire for health promoting lifestyle(HPL), profile 2.
Results: The total score of maternal health promotion was in moderate level (125.48±17.81). There was not significant relation between HPL, gender, type of school, parent 's job and education .Comparing between HPL & economic situation showed significant differences (P <0.01).
Conclusions: Regarding the importance of mother role in family and society, so pay attention to their health, especially in the field of physical activity and stress management requires implementation of health education programs for them.
