Introduction: Mother-child mental health is related to mothers' cognitivedistortions. The present study aimed to compare the effectiveness of attachment-based therapy and cognitive-behavioral therapy on cognitive distortion in mothers with preschool or elementary school children. Method: It was a quasi-experimental researchwith a pre-test and post-test design with a control group. The statistical population included mothers who were referred to the counseling centers of the Welfare Organization of West Tehran in 2023. Using the available sampling method, 60 mothers were selected and randomly divided into two interventional groups (attachment-based therapy and cognitive-behavioral therapy) and a control group (20 people in each group). The research tools included demographic information and the Interpersonal Cognitive Distortion Questionnaire (ICDS). Result : The results showed that there is a significant difference between the scores of cognitive distortions of the groups: attachment-based therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy, and control (p<0.001). Benferroni's test showed that despite the lack of significant difference between the two treatment methods (p < 0.05) the difference in the average effect of attachment-based therapy was slightly more than cognitive-behavioral therapy. Conclusion: Therapy based on attachment and cognitive behavioral therapy are both suitable methods for improving mothers'cognitive distortions. According to the exigencies of the situation, the mentioned treatments can be used to reduce the cognitive distortions of mothers with elementary school or preschool children.
