Introduction: One of the common problems in adolescents with posttraumatic stress symptoms is anxiety, which causes numerous negative consequences for these individuals and requires therapeutic interventions. Therefore, the present study aimed to determine the effectiveness of trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy on post-traumatic stress symptoms and anxiety in adolescents with post-traumatic stress symptoms.

Method: The present study was a quasi-experimental study with pre-test and post-test with a control group. The statistical population included all 13-18-year-olds with posttraumatic stress symptoms who visited counseling and psychological services centers in Tehran in 2024. Among them, 30 people were selected by convenience sampling method and randomly assigned to two experimental and control groups (15 people in the experimental and control groups) by drawing lots. The people in the experimental group received trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy (12 sessions) and one session per week for 60 minutes. The Beck Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (1988) and Anxiety (1988) questionnaires were used. Univariate analysis of covariance with SPSS version 25 software was used to analyze the data.

Results: The results showed that trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy was effective in reducing posttraumatic stress symptoms and anxiety in the post-test phase (p < 0.01).

Conclusion: According to the findings, the use of trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy in reducing post-traumatic stress symptoms and anxiety in adolescents with post-traumatic stress symptoms is recommended to psychologists and counselors.

Keywords: Trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy, post-traumatic stress symptoms, anxiety, adolescents.
