Introduction: Cancer, as a global health problem, is the second leading cause of death in children. Therefore, the present study was conducted to determine the effectiveness of child-centered play therapy on separation anxiety and resilience in children with cancer. Methods: The present study was a quasi-experimental study with pre-test and post-test with a control group. The statistical population included all male children aged 9 to 12 years with cancer in the Babol Association for Helping Children with Cancer in 2005. Among them, 30 people were selected by convenience sampling method and randomly assigned to two experimental and control groups (15 people in the experimental and control groups) by drawing lots. The people in the experimental group received child-centered play therapy (8 sessions), one session per week for 45 minutes.Valid and reliable child anxiety questionnaires by Birmaher et al. (1999) and the Child and Adolescent Resilience Scale by Angar and Liebenberg (2009) were used to collect data. Results: The results showed that child-centered play therapy was effective in reducing separation anxiety and resilience in the post-test phase (p < 0.01). Conclusion: The use of child-centered play therapy is recommended to psychologists and counselors to reduce separation anxiety and resilience in children with cancer.
